Sense of humor as an adaptive coping construct of social and emotional intelligence of young people under the state of emergency of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Abstract

The article considers the social role of the sense of humor as a tool for resolving the emotional conflict of a young person in a crisis. During a state of emergency, it is important to note the panic and stress state of the population. The authors conducted an ascertaining study among young people in Kazakhstan. Young people have been selected as respondents, as this category is the most mobile, and the pandemic was the first serious social challenge. At the same time, the emotional and social intelligence of young people is still developing. It was suggested that the sense of humor is an adaptive construct of the social and emotional intelligence of young people during the introduction of the state of emergency in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The survey was attended by 881 participants from 17 regions of the country. The analysis revealed that 84.3%
of respondents believe that a sense of humor is an effective tool in relieving tension. The article reveals the social value of humor in escalating a state of emergency scenario. The article analyzes the manifestation and implementation of the coping strategy in a state of emergency as an indicator of a sufficient or insufficient level of development of social and emotional intelligence of young people.
