The article deals with the issue of training teachers to teach non-linguistic disciplines in a foreign language using the Content and Language Integrated Learning. The relevance of the problem is due, on the one hand, to the growing popularity of this approach in Kazakhstan, and on the other hand, to the lack of well-trained professional teachers who are ready to implement the SLIL approach in practice. The authors highlight the main characteristics of a CLIL teacher,
identifying the core competencies to formulate the so-called professional portrait of a CLIL teacher. As a result, the authors provide a range of competencies and a list of necessary measures to be taken when planning the training of CLIL-teachers.
