Abstract

This article is aimed at analyzing an assessment as a means of motivating first-year students of a technical university to learn a foreign language, as well as to discuss the issue of increasing their motivation to learn English through assessment. According to some research sources, both positive and negative evaluation can affect the motivation and interests of students, and also motivate their actions and behavior. Assessment is a powerful educational tool that affects the development of the individual as a whole; objective assessment is effective if the student has confidence in the teacher, whose personality, general view, communication style with the group and the ability to create an atmosphere of psychological comfort also play a decisive role. To solve this problem, the authors consider objective assessment as a way to stimulate motivation and increase their interest in learning English, and share their experience in assessing the knowledge of Satbayev University students.
