The article describes the emergence of psychological characteristics of students' motivation to achieve success. Based on theoretical research, students' motivation to achieve success depends on various factors. First of all, it has been established that there is a connection with educational achievements and perseverance, desire for goals, success in performing complex mathematical tasks, in addition, students’ self-determination, life plans, self-reflection, the desire for self-realization and internal satisfaction with their goals are the motivation to achieve success. The age characteristics and dynamics of students' motivation to achieve success are described. The motivation for the success of students of various professions in higher educational institutions in different cities of Kazakhstan is studied. Characteristics are given according to the levels of need for students to achieve success based on the socio-psychological data of the subjects. According to the results of an empirical study, it is shown that the levels of need to achieve success differ between boys and girls, depend on age characteristics, and are also related to their professional field of activity.
