Abstract

At the present global stage, the purpose of the education system is clearly defined as
providing the state with qualified personnel, training competitive specialists, which quality education
aimed to the development and professional formation of the individual. The implementation of these
tasks is connected with the creation of the necessary conditions on the part of the university and the
effective organization of education at the modern level. In the 21 century, in the age of information and
communication technologies, one of the new trends in education is media education. By the professional
personal development through the process of media education, media-competent specialists will be skilled
enough to use information in their environment competently. It is obvious that a graduate of a university
with a developed media literacy, information education and professional competence will achieve high
results, working productively in the specialty and showing civic activity. Today, the growth of the pace of
computer and information development, turning information competence into the most important area of
general competence, requires its comprehensive, in-depth consideration and scientific study. The article
analyzes the definitions of domestic and foreign scientists to the concepts of «media education», «media
education process», «competence», «information competence» in scientific works. The article analyzes

«information competence» in the scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists and gives concepts.
In addition, the scientific works scientists on the formation and development of students’ information
competence were analyzed and grouped depending on the region of the study. Studying scientific works
within the framework of the topic, the authors give recommendations related to the development of
students’ information competence in the process of media education. The development of information
competence of students in the process of media education, encourages regular continuous improvement
of the level of self-education, allowing them to adapt to the conditions of the labor market, instills skills in
the need to supplement professional and information literacy.
