Tajiks of Turkestan region: ethnic tolerance and intercultural relations

Abstract

This article presents the results of a field survey conducted in 2023 in the villages of Gulistan, Tugushev, and Orgebas in the Makhtaral district of Turkestan Region and in the city of Turkestan. The purpose of this article is to understand the nature of the relationship of the Tajik ethnic group living in the Turkestan region with other cultures and to interpret the nature of tolerance among the population of this region, including among Tajiks, as well as to identify factors influencing the development of tolerance in the region. The results of the study revealed that among the population that is the object of the study, mutual positive relationships based on tolerance are developing. This is evidenced by their openness, the developing favorable relationships among them, cooperation and intercultural dialogue between them. In addition, it can be concluded that their type of settlement, such as multiethnic or mono-ethnic, does not have a special effect on tolerance and intercultural relations of the population.
