An educator’s role in preventing bullying among adolescents in general secondary school

Abstract

Nowadays, bullying in general secondary school is an important social and pedagogical problem. Bullying prevention and reducing its consequences is the main task of an educational organization. Bullying affects various areas of school life, i.e. the sense of security of students and teachers in general, physical and
psychological health, the quality and effectiveness of activities, and the culture of school life in general. If bullying is not stopped at school, it may become part of the behavior of children and adolescents and accompany them for the rest of their lives. A teacher’s attention to bullying directly affects the decrease in the level of bullying.
The article determines the main role of the teacher in solving and preventing the problem of bullying. It describes the peculiarities of teachers’ perception of bullying that occurs among students. The article highlights that teacher intervention has an impact on the bullying situation in general secondary schools. It is established that teachers have difficulties in recognizing bullying, responding effectively to it, as well as in an individual position the case of bullying.
The article provides an overview of advanced foreign and domestic studies on determining the role of a teacher in the prevention of bullying among adolescents. The article includes statistical data on the prevalence of bullying in educational organizations in Kazakhstan and other countries.
