The article is devoted to the use of phraseological units in the everyday foreign language speech of schoolchildren with the aim to develop communicative and ethnocultural competencies. The relevance of the research is determined by the fact that one of the most important sources of introducing students to figurative and expressive foreign language speech is the fund of phraseological units. The phraseological fund of the language is one of the most interesting and productive objects that clearly demonstrate national and cultural traditions, values, and features of the worldview, as well as the rapidly growing role of intercultural communication in the modern world. According to the authors, the use of phraseological means in foreign language lessons contributes to the solution of didactic and educational tasks: the development of communication skills, and memory; development of artistic thinking; acquaintance with the history and culture of their community and abroad; education of moral and spiritual qualities of a person. The article also presents frequently used phraseological units, divided into thematic parts. The article also presents principles and directions of improving the methodology of introducing phraseological material in teaching English in the secondary education system to form and develop intercultural communicative competence. The results of the study can be used in the educational process of teaching English at school and other educational organizations, as well as in compiling and developing textbooks, and teaching aids for teaching English.
