On the development of university teacher competitiveness in the context of the competence paradigm

Abstract

The article represents a revised conception of «competitiveness of a teacher in higher education based on the results of the systematization of scientific approaches to the problem of competitiveness growth of a university lecturer. The urgency of the research is also due to the need to resolve the contradiction between the demand for a competitive high school teacher in modern society and the existing practice of training the teacher at the university.

The author structurally has identified groups of competencies of a university lecturer related to the conception of «competitiveness of a university lecturer» based on the analysis of scientific approaches.

Structurally conception “competitiveness of a university lecturer” is defined as an integrative education, which includes a set of competencies of lecturers corresponding to new views on the tasks of a modern university. The author proceeds from the fact that competence is an essential factor in the competitiveness of the teaching staff of the university.

The article is also focused on the issues of the development and implementation of models and lists of competencies of university lecturers, and a competence assessment system for the faculty members.

The article makes recommendations for the University lecturer competitiveness growth: development of programs for advanced training courses providing education for University lectures in groups of competencies; creation of a scientific-methodological framework in universities for evaluating complex of competencies of a University lecturer; the introduction of a competency-based model of a University lecturer in the main educational programs for the academic training of future lecturers, providing counseling service in universities for career strategies of a high school teacher based on the analysis of the presented approaches of scientists.

To obtain the results of the research, there were carried out analysis and synthesis of academic papers by domestic and foreign authors on this research problem.
