The article deals with the problems of teaching arts and crafts in modern design education in
Kazakhstan. And also the issue of reviving the traditions of folk art in modern design. The author compares the approaches and theoretical views of various authors on the development of arts and crafts and the search for a new place for them in modern design. The process is analyzed that allows the transmission of traditions with the aim of detailed, accurate and complete preservation of traditional folk crafts. The importance in the present tense of the issue of teaching students of the named disciplines is highlighted. The article shows that decorative and applied art, passed down from generation to generation, is a fundamental direction that allows us to merge the past historical culture and the modern world. The basics of design include design, art, design and graphic activities. Drawing, painting, composition, drafting, technical graphics, artistic design, modeling, ergonomics, art history and other items provide a replenishment for the design activity. Therefore, taking into account the trends of the times, the preparation of students and schoolchildren must be strengthened, improved and improved. What will contribute to the skills of self-development, creative and project activities. The most important thing for a teacher-designer is a creative look at the established canons, traditions in creating samples of clothing, interior items, etc., their interpretation from the standpoint of modernity.
