Education reforms currently taking place in all countries are primarily carried out on the basis of borrowing the so-called «best world experience». However, as the results of international comparative studies (PISA, TIMSS, TALIS, etc.) show, they do not provide the expected quality of education.
A comprehensive analysis of the causes, conditions and circumstances in which the crisis is taking place gives us grounds to assert that its immediate cause is the outdated mechanism of the educational process, the pedagogical process as a whole, its organization and methods, the entire educational technology.
In this regard, it is important to rely on pedagogical research, primarily didactics as a science of teaching and education, the most important task of which is to explain and foresee the ways of effective development of education.
The article discusses issues related to the global crisis in education, the signs and circumstances that gave rise to it, its immediate cause of the crisis. Based on the results of scientific research, the main vector for the further progressive development of education is proposed, associated with the transition to a collective way of teaching.
