Implementation of immersive technologies in the context of digital transformation of education

Abstract

This article summarizes the results of studies on the processes of digital transformation of education because of significant changes that have taken place in education. There is presented the authors’ point of view of the digital transformation processes taking place in the education system, which accompany the development and integration of immersive technologies (virtual and augmented reality technologies), as one of the trends in learning, most strongly influencing the ongoing changes. By conducting an online survey to identify the
readiness of schoolchildren and their parents to use virtual and augmented reality in teaching, there were interviewed 454 respondents (212 pupils, their parents - 242 people). The article reveals a level of awareness of schoolchildren and their parents about the technologies of virtual and augmented reality. It determines an attitude to the use of technologies of virtual and augmented reality in the educational process. Some questions made it possible to identify the key advantages and disadvantages of using virtual and augmented reality technologies in the classroom. The study reveals the opinion of schoolchildren about the subjects in which the use of VR/AR technologies is the most expedient. There was made attempt to determine the immediate prospects for the use and development of immersive technologies in education.
