Abstract

The main problem of modern doctoral education is a rather low percentage of dissertation research defense. Among the main factors influencing the research progress of doctoral students is scientific supervision. The purpose of this literature review is to analyze foreign research and identify the main components of successful scientific supervision. There are reviewed and analyzed 34 publications using the traditional approach to content analysis. As a result, the authors identified such reasonable components of successful scientific leadership as the personal qualities of the consultant, the relationship between the consultant and the doctoral student, and the practice of supervision. In addition, another important factor is the choice of a supervisor. Based on the results of the analytical work carried out, several recommendations have been formulated for improving scientific management approaches. The practical significance of the work entails the opportunities of the article conclusions and arguments implementation on Ph.D. supervision literature review to improve some of the areas of Kazakhstan’s doctoral education.
