Today, it is not the collection and memorization of information that is becoming relevant in education, nevertheless the mastery of the skill of its correct application. The skills to understand, analyze and use any incoming information correctly are important. These skills are formed in the process of diverse work with
reader-oriented texts. The article discusses the results of an experiment conducted to identify which methods are able to form the functional literacy of students. The experiment used the method of research in action. To successfully carry out the research in action, the authors identified the research area, developed an experiment, further comprehended the experience gained, and finally, based on the results, came to the conclusion that it is recommended to think about a longer-term study in order to successfully change the habit and increase students’ awareness of functional literacy. It is also necessary to improve student’s reading comprehension and language proficiency to improve functional literacy.
