The article reveals methodological approaches to the implementation of environmental education in secondary and higher schools through the theory of self-organization (synergetics). Synergetics refers to an interdisciplinary theory and can be used to integrate natural science and humanities disciplines. Since
the science of ecology is closely related to various sciences, a synergistic approach can be effectively used in environmental education. The ecological problems of the planet Earth are studied from the standpoint of the
theory of self-organization. The article investigates the process of formation of ecological consciousness and culture of students.
The article considers ways of forming students’ synergetic-ecological picture of the world. It reveals tasks of elective courses in schools and universities aimed at the development of their worldview.
