Abstract

This article examines the history of the formation of social work in Kazakhstan and its impact on the support and assistance of people living with HIV and drug users. The authors have made an attempt to understand the limitations and difficulties of people living with HIV and using drugs in Kazakhstan. There
were demonstrated results of a survey of people living with HIV status in the regions of Shymkent, Taldykorgan, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Nur-Sultan, Petropavlovsk, and Pavlodar region. The article considers the role of the social worker, the state social policy of Kazakhstan in relation to the prevention of HIV infection, and the development of the system of medical and social support, ways and opportunities for the development of social work.
