The article considers comparative indicators of the successful separation of young children from their parents and their psychological characteristics by types of separation. The authors conducted a study to identify the levels of separation of children to determine the criteria for the success of this process. There were
identified groups with successful separation from parents and with low indicators of the degree of separation from mother and father. The authors carried out an analysis of personal qualities of young people with successful separation by types of separation. The novelty of the work is determined by the norms of types of separation for the Kazakh sample, identified in the course of the study. The authors analyzed and identified psychological factors that determine the «success» of the process of separation from parents at this stage of life. For the first time, an adapted Russian-language version of the PSI method was used in the Russian-speaking environment in the Kazakh sample, which is aimed at identifying levels of a psychological gap between parents and children in
the youth period. The empirical part examines features of interpersonal communication of young people. The article notes their connection with the process of separation, the importance of the communicative element in
the experience of separation. There were considered features of separation from father and mother. Theoretical analysis highlights an influence of additional factors on the success of separation, determining the types of separation from parents according to J. Hoffman.
